It is unclear how the Nigerian professional footballer Abubakar Lawal died from a fall while on a visit to Uganda. The circumstances around his death can only be understood by a proper investigation and the government is calling on investigators to follow through.

The acting Nigerian high Commissioner in Uganda, Ambassador Shama Shanga is demanding a full autopsy.

Chair/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (Nidcom), Abike Dabiri-Erewa provided this information in a statement, and also said “it appears suspicious.”

“We dey demand a thorough investigation. No cover up at all.”

Having condoled with the family of the deceased, she assured them that the Nigerian government would look into the death.

Reports from Uganda about the death of the Nigerian footballer Abubakar Lawal claims that he fell from a shopping mall in the countries capital Kampala.

Police in Uganda said it has opened up an investigation and more will be known as they progress. So far they are utilizing available tools including CCTV footage as well as conducting thorough interrogation to establish an answer.

The 29 years old allegedly fell from a third floor balcony at the Voicemall Shopping Arcade where he was visiting a friend Omary Naima from Tanzanian. The pair shared a room which has a balcony in the mall building. The police claims Lawal had stepped out to the balcony when the fall happened.

He was taken to the hospital, and according to Ugandan police that was where he was pronounced dead. Several causes have been attributed for his death including a motorcycle accident and a fatal car crash.

Lawal was a striker at the Vipers Sports Club Kitende, Entebbe, Uganda and team members have expressed sadness over his passing.
