Uganda is starting to shed the pain of the punishment island through storytelling. The reimagined folktale on Netflix, Katera of the Punishment Island, Netflix and Unesco project is one of such related stories.
Katera grieves her dead child, the one consumed by the cold and unfriendly Akampene Island. However, like most girls before her, she has to pay the price of getting pregnant outside wedlock.

Katera has nothing but hate and wants revenge for her loss. She makes a decision to haunt the man who sent her to Akampene Island.
The story is about healing, revenge and the search for redemption.
