Ahead of the resumption of trials this coming April (if proceedings are completed and delays surmounted), a government minister said Thursday that terrorists and kidnapping transactions in Nigeria were made possible by Binance.

DL News, in an exclusive interview with Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the government’s Minister of Information, shared that the legal case brought against Binance was a matter of National security concerns.

“We stumbled on evidence linking the operations of Binance and these criminal elements ― terrorists and their like,” Alhaji Mohammed Idris said.

In response, the government launched a legal process against the world’s biggest crypto exchange, which now faces three cases.

The charges brought against Binance include facilitating money laundering and tax evasion, as well as a claim of lost $81 billion in economic activity by the Nigerian government. The crypto giant is going to trial for all three matters soon.

The minister said that the government feared an escalation of insecurity by the operations carried out on Binance. The fight with Binance was mostly driven by this, even though Tigran Gambaryan, the Binance employee who was held in detention for months in Nigeria, claims that the government wanted to “get something.”

In a legal manner, the government intends to fine Binance $81 billion in the multiple criminal charges brought against it by Nigeria.
