AGN Confirms Arrest of Stan K Over Alleged Coup Plot
Stanley was picked up in Enugu. As investigations continue, the AGN has called on its members to remain united and to advocate for due process and access to legal and medical support for the detained actor.
Stan K Arrest

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has confirmed the arrest of Nollywood actor and filmmaker Stanley Amandi, popularly known as Stan K., over his alleged involvement in a failed plot to overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu.
Amandi, a former chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the AGN, is among several civilians reportedly arrested in connection with the alleged coup attempt uncovered by security agencies late last year.
Former President of the AGN, Emeka Rollas Ejezie, said the guild has been engaging security authorities to secure access to the detained actor. According to him, initial efforts were directed at the Department of State Services (DSS), which later informed the guild that Amandi was not in its custody but had been transferred to the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).
“Stanley was picked up in Enugu. We have been interfacing with the DSS to allow him see his lawyer and wife until last week, when the DSS officially wrote to us that he is not with them but with the Defence Intelligence Agency,” Rollas said.
He added that the guild has since reached out to the DIA, requesting access to Amandi’s family, legal counsel and medical doctor, citing concerns over his health. Rollas disclosed that the actor is hypertensive and requires medical attention.
The Defence Intelligence Agency has yet to issue an official statement on Amandi’s arrest or detention.
While the precise reasons for the actor’s arrest remain unclear, reports allege that he was hired to serve as a propagandist for individuals involved in planning the failed coup. Amandi’s last known social media activity was on September 19, 2025, shortly before his arrest.
The arrest comes amid broader investigations into an alleged coup plot uncovered in October 2025. At the time, the Nigerian military confirmed the arrest and dismissal of 16 officers over what it described as acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations, though it stopped short of directly linking the action to an attempted coup.
Earlier this week, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) announced that it had concluded investigations into the officers arrested in October. In a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samalia Uba, the military said its findings had been submitted to “superior authority” in line with existing regulations.
The statement noted that some officers were found to have engaged in conduct inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the armed forces, including allegations related to plotting to overthrow the government. The cases are expected to be referred to a military judicial panel for disciplinary action in accordance with the Armed Forces Act.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria reiterate that the measures taken are purely disciplinary and part of ongoing institutional mechanisms to preserve order, discipline and operational effectiveness,” the statement said, adding that the military remains committed to loyalty and respect for constitutional authority.
His film credits include Lionheart, Bachelors, Monica the Fighter and Another Bondage, while his directorial works include The Album, Nkwocha and Tiger King.
Amandi previously served as chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the AGN and was appointed sole administrator of the chapter in 2022 following the suspension of its former leadership.
