This One Character, Repeated in Different Nollywood Movies is Exceptional
Akpos is a character with a unique comic influence that makes all his fans laugh. AY manages to maintain his repeat character after 4 Nollywood movies.
Throughout its history, Nollywood has done well in delivering creativity. The best of them come from actors who push their talents a little bit further into the most unique zones.
They are those that can go beyond the transformation of their real selves. Outside their job description where they play a variety of roles, they could also be typecast and remain in the character even in various movies.
Many fans can truly become fond of characters created out of the book especially if they are repeated in various movies by one actor.
For instance, it will feel comforting to see Funke Akindele taking up the name Jenifa in different films and series. Funke Akindele is phenomenal with Jenifa but it sort of ends with the series.
Jenifa has not shown up in any movies or series even though many secretly long to see Jenifa again.
The good thing with this in Nollywood is that the audience has never had to worry about the character being replaced at one point in a franchise. This is mostly because these characters are created by the actors who play them.
This makes this list an easy one since there is only one actor who has maintained this concept.
Akpos – 30 Days in Atlanta, 10 Days in Sun City, Christmas in Miami, A Trip to Jamaica
Akpos is currently a movement in the Nigerian movie industry. There is only one case of a performer of the Akpos role and that is Ayo Makun. The character was created in 2014 by Ayo Makun aka AY.
The actor/stand-up comedian has either directed or produced these movies sometimes while playing the role of Akpos.
AY gets credit for being the first one to repeat and maintain a character in a movie as well as creating the first Nollywood semi-franchise.
AY has starred in other movies in different roles with his most recent before “Christmas in Miami” being Merry Men 2.
Repeating one character might be strange for AY as he will forever be known for the rest of his career as Akpos.
However, in Nollywood, the audiences often only see this one actor as perfect for a repeated character and role. Akpos remains unchallenged for Ay.
Richard Williams – Living in Bondage, RattleSnake – The Ahanna Story
In the remake of RattleSnake -The Ahanna Story – Richard Williams (Ramsey Nouah) also appears with the same name as in the “Living in Bondage” remake.
The character appears to offer Ahanna a place with The Brotherhood of the Six. Richard Williams once more showed up.
