Nigeria’s low-cost airline, Green Africa, is upgrading its service with the acquisition of a new ATR 72-500 aircraft. Flight operations going forward would be accomplished with the incoming aircraft, which is also its first self-owned jet. For the most part, airplanes used by Green Africa were leased to it by lessor entities.
Under lease agreements, Green Africa’s fleet consists of ATR 72-600 aircraft that were useful in the provision of safe, reliable, and affordable air travel within Nigeria.
However, recent issues led to a suspension of flights, it announced recently. It said that the situation prevents the operation of flights and has disrupted the schedule. Green Africa called it a sudden and unexpected development and assured passengers that it is working on a solution ASAP.
The airline further grounded all flights, saying that it had made efforts to contain the situation and prevent chaos. More so, its announcement on Monday reveals that flights will resume after the Eid al-Fitr holidays.
After customary regulatory approvals, the newly acquired ATR 72-500 aircraft will join the Green Africa fleet in service. The incoming plane has a manufacturer’s serial number 852 and registration mark 5N-GAB.
The airline said Access Bank helped facilitate the aircraft acquisition with the provision of a Naira debt fund.
