Lebara Nigeria is the Nigerian subsidiary of the global telecom brand Lebara Group, a UK-headquartered company originally founded in 2001. It specializes in mobile communication services through a Lebara model that leases capacity from existing operators.

As an MVNO, Lebara doesn’t build its own network infrastructure and is able to offer voice and data services without owning antennas or spectrum. In Nigeria, Lebara operates after securing a Tier 5 MVNO licence from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the highest tier under current regulations.

Although commercial services were initially expected in 2025, Lebara Nigeria’s full nationwide rollout has extended into 2026 as the company builds its retail, agent, and distributor network ahead of launch.

It hosted a soft launch and networking event in February 2026, signalling formal entry and strategic intent.

It has launched digital tools like the Number Reservation Portal, enabling Nigerians to reserve preferred 0724 phone numbers ahead of service activation. It also launched the Agent Registration Portal that lets retailers register online to sell Lebara products.

Labara Nigeria Full Overview

Lebara Nigeria is positioning itself as a competitive and customer-centric telecom provider with features that include:

The company has rolled out its dedicated 0724 phone number prefix, distinguishing its lines from existing operators and preparing for commercial service.

Lebara has secured full interconnectivity with major Nigerian networks (such as MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9mobile), meaning calls and texts can be made across all networks once live.

Instead of traditional prepaid airtime credits, Lebara emphasizes a minutes-based billing model, users pay for actual usage, and unused time remains on the account.

Lebara plans to offer both physical SIM cards and eSIMs, which users can activate online or in-store.

Their offerings aim to appeal to students, through affordable plans for calls, data, and messaging. More so, entrepreneurs/SMEs are attracted to the business packages designed for reliable local and international connectivity.

Diaspora returnees also find it easy to reconnect while in Nigeria or abroad.

Lebara Nigeria isn’t just about telecoms, it’s promoting financial and creative economy services too.

Customers with a Lebara SIM reportedly get a prefunded wallet, unlocking access to microloans, device financing, exclusive events, and partnerships with hubs and institutions.

Lebara also intends to support Nigeria’s creative space, art, culture, and tourism sectors through collaborations and value-added events.

Industry observers see Lebara’s entry as boosting competition in Nigeria’s telecom market, which is dominated by long-established players like MTN and Airtel. Its global MVNO experience is expected to pressure incumbents to innovate, particularly around pricing transparency and user experience.

The company’s entry also attracted political support, with Nigeria’s President urging deeper digital investment and celebrating Lebara’s arrival as a milestone in the country’s telecom growth.
