The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert about the recall of approximately 60,000 units of iHerb/California Gold Nutrition multivitamins and iron supplements in the USA.

The affected products include Daily Prenatal Multi, Ultamins Women’s Multivitamin, and Ultamins Women’s 50+ Multivitamin, sold nationwide through retailers such as Walmart, Amazon, and Target from January 2019 to April 2025.

The recall stems from the discovery that these products lack child-resistant packaging, violating federal safety standards under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act.

This packaging deficiency poses a serious risk of fatal iron poisoning if young children accidentally ingest the supplements. Even a few tablets can cause severe symptoms, including vomiting, stomach pain, low blood pressure, bleeding, liver damage, and potentially life-threatening conditions.

NAFDAC has directed zonal directors and state coordinators to conduct surveillance and remove the recalled products within Nigeria.

Distributors, retailers, healthcare professionals, and caregivers are urged to be vigilant to prevent further distribution and use of these unsafe products.

Consumers are advised to obtain medical products only from authorized suppliers and to verify product authenticity.

Healthcare professionals and consumers should report any suspicions of substandard or falsified products to NAFDAC through designated channels, including phone, email, and online reporting platforms.

The recall notice will also be shared with the WHO Global Surveillance and Monitoring System to enhance global awareness.

Consumers in possession of the recalled supplements should immediately secure them out of children’s reach and contact iHerb for refunds and safe disposal instructions.

No injuries or fatalities have been reported so far related to this recall.
